What do I call my aunt's husband?
He's your uncle — specifically an uncle by marriage (sometimes called an “uncle-in-law”). He married your blood aunt, so you don't share DNA, but in everyday life he's simply your uncle. The same works in reverse: your uncle's wife is your aunt by marriage.
What is my wife's brother or husband's sister called?
Your spouse's brother is your brother-in-law, and your spouse's sister is your sister-in-law. The same terms cover your sibling's spouse — your sister's husband is your brother-in-law, and your brother's wife is your sister-in-law.
What's the difference between a half-sibling and a step-sibling?
A half-sibling shares exactly one biological parent with you (same mom or same dad). A step-sibling shares no biological parent — they're the child of your stepparent from another relationship, connected to you only by marriage.
What do I call my stepmother's or stepfather's mother?
She's your step-grandmother, and your stepparent's father is your step-grandfather. Likewise, your parent's stepparent is your step-grandparent. Informally, many families just say grandma or grandpa.
Is there a name for my spouse's sibling's spouse?
There's no formal English word — some people say co-sibling-in-law, and casually you might just call them your brother- or sister-in-law. You're connected by marriage, not blood, so it's fine to use whatever your family prefers.
What is my cousin's child to me?
Your first cousin's child is your first cousin once removed — and the same term describes your parent's cousin from the other direction. “Removed” just means you're a generation apart. For the full cousin math, try our main Relationship Calculator.
