Family tree template FAQ

How do I print the family tree template?

Choose your number of generations, type a family name if you like, then tap 🖨️ Print. Only the chart prints — the rest of the page is hidden automatically — so you get a clean, full-page blank tree ready to fill in by hand. For best results, print in landscape orientation on standard letter or A4 paper.

What’s the difference between the 3, 4, and 5-generation trees?

Each option is a standard ancestor (pedigree) chart. A 3-generation tree has 7 boxes: you, your 2 parents, and 4 grandparents. A 4-generation tree adds 8 great-grandparents for 15 boxes total. A 5-generation tree adds 16 great-great-grandparents for 31 boxes. Start smaller for a school project and go bigger for a reunion or genealogy binder.

Is this really free? Do I need to sign up?

Yes, it’s completely free with no account, no email, and no watermark. The chart is drawn right in your browser, so nothing you type is ever uploaded. Print or download as many blank templates as you want.

What is the blank cousin chart for?

The cousin chart is a classic reference grid that shows how relatives connect — first cousins, second cousins, and what “once removed” or “twice removed” actually means. Print it and pin it up as a cheat sheet when you’re untangling who’s who at a family gathering. Unlike the family tree, it isn’t personalized — it’s the same handy relationship key for everyone.

Can I fill in names on my computer instead of by hand?

These templates are designed to be printed blank and filled in with a pen — great for kids and reunions. If you’d rather build a chart on-screen with real names and photos, use the CousinChart homepage builder, and try the Relationship Calculator to confirm exactly how any two people are related.
